Kid iPads

Each kid can save a bright personal app icon that opens only their day. On first open it asks who they are, remembers that choice on the device, and still lets them tap Switch if someone else needs the iPad.

  1. On the kid’s iPad, open the My Day app (/my).
  2. Tap their name.
  3. Tap Share → Add to Home Screen.
  4. Open the new icon anytime for their chores, routines, and rewards.

Board and points

Kinds listed here appear on the Calendar week grid when an item’s calendar visibility is Auto. Routines, chores, and tasks stay board-only unless listed here or the item is set to Always.

Defaults, printing, and sync

Enter the thermal printer’s LAN IP. A bare IP uses raw ESC/POS on port 9100. Use an http:// URL only if you still run Receipt Automator. Leave blank to use RECEIPT_API_URL.

Weather uses a Home Assistant weather.* entity for the board clock strip (current temp plus today’s high/low). Leave blank to show only the live clock.

Automations

Background sync uses the sync minutes under Board and points. Reminder nudges, approval SLAs, presence muting, and morning auto-print run in the server tick loop.

Security and accessibility

Outbound feeds: /api/export/day.json and /api/export/calendar.ics. Inbound hooks: /api/hooks/items and /api/hooks/complete with X-Webhook-Token.

Theme

Add iCloud / webcal feed

Paste a public iCloud publish URL (webcal:// or https://). This is the share link from Calendar → share publicly. Private CalDAV login is not required for publish URLs.

Anyone with a public publish URL can read that calendar. Prefer the Home Assistant path if the feed is already connected there.

Connected household systems

Home Assistant calendars, iCloud/webcal feeds, Homebox maintenance, and Mealie meal plans sync into the board.

Action rewards call allowlisted Home Assistant services when redeemed. Home Assistant scripts own any delay or automatic revert.

Mealie: configure via the add-on options mealie_url / mealie_token, or MEALIE_URL / MEALIE_TOKEN env vars. Saving add-on options restarts the container — re-enter the parent PIN, then Verify.

Household announcements

Play cues on Sonos (and other speakers) through allowlisted Home Assistant services. Prefer an HA script that accepts message and media_player_entity_id. See docs/announcements-sonos-example.md for the paste-ready HA package.

Lead time fires announce-on-due this many minutes before the item time. Individual items can override it.

Add Family Command Center to AI apps

ChatGPT and Claude can see the board, add chores and schedules, and mark items done through a remote MCP connector. This is separate from the parent PIN on the family screen.

  1. Expose this home server on HTTPS (Tailscale Funnel, Cloudflare Tunnel, Caddy, etc.). ChatGPT and Claude need a public HTTPS URL.
  2. Set environment variables on the server:
    • MCP_TOKEN — internal fallback bearer secret, 16+ characters. Normal OAuth setup does not require typing or saving it.
    • PUBLIC_BASE_URL — the public HTTPS origin used for OAuth (example: https://YOUR_HOST)
  3. Restart the Family Command Center service after changing those variables.

Connect ChatGPT

  1. Enable developer mode / custom connectors in ChatGPT.
  2. Add a connector with the MCP URL above.
  3. Complete OAuth and enter the same six-digit parent PIN used by this admin screen.

Connect Claude

  1. Open Customize → Connectors (or Claude iOS connector settings).
  2. Add the same remote MCP URL.
  3. Approve access with the same six-digit parent PIN used by this admin screen.

What the apps can do

Tools include listing people and board items, opening a person’s day, creating/updating/deleting items, marking work complete, reviewing reports, and syncing household calendars.

For direct testing you can also call /mcp with Authorization: Bearer <MCP_TOKEN>.
